Angor, Second Edition!

By | 2019-03-12T02:11:46+00:00 March 12th, 2019|Uncategorized|0 Comments

Welcome back to another round of Hobby ADD! Today, your host will be Bill Dungey! (Can't you head the 90's game show music?) So, I've been playing a bunch of D&D lately. I'm playing most often in a homebrew world I've been working on for a while. It's called Angor - it's a province in a larger kingdom that isn't 'settled'. Lots to explore, fight and run away from in this little document - feel free to rip, steal, distribute and copy!

The Imposter Syndrome

By | 2018-05-22T02:11:23+00:00 April 13th, 2018|Blog|0 Comments

Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon, fraud syndrome or the impostor experience) is a concept describing individuals who are marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and have a persistent fear of being exposed as a "fraud". Last year, my wife and I started batting around the idea that I should extend my coaching from the once-yearly tee-ball leauge to the local school. I suggested that since they didn't have a wrestling team, I might be able to lend a hand in that department. Here's the thing about telling people you'll do something - you have to do [...]

Chest punch: a lost cultural rite

By | 2018-04-11T14:15:28+00:00 April 11th, 2018|Blog|3 Comments

Last year, I participated in the GoRuck Tough Challenge. If you want to read my after-action, check this out. GoRuck is best summed up like this; good livin'. Lifting heavy shit, getting after it and pressing forward under a brick-weighted pack for the sake of testing yourself and becoming something more. That's something I've been researching a lot lately - becoming something more. See, I've got this basic hypothesis. I believe men are losing a cultural foothold on who we are through a lack of rites of passage, dissassociation from the tribe and no 'great struggle' to fight against. I've [...]

Journaling: a blended Bujo / 5-minute method

By | 2018-04-09T00:42:09+00:00 April 9th, 2018|Blog|4 Comments

When I cracked open my 4th journal - and we'll come back to that - I was a little too focused on the system behind it. I tend to operate like that, attaching systematic approaches to the things I'm involved in. I began by researching the various page designs others had come up with for the Bullet Journal. If you've never heard of the Bullet Journal - open a new tab right here. I've since adopted a number of really low-key, minimal layouts for monthly and daily logs. Truthfully, I don't use my journal for much more than that. I [...]

Angor: Next steps for a well-received campaign setting

By | 2018-03-20T14:04:17+00:00 March 20th, 2018|Blog|0 Comments

Over the weekend, I put Angor up on Reddit. After a couple hours, I had received a bunch of really nice feedback and a couple hundred upvotes. One particular comment got me to thinking; So, are you going to try and sell Angor to a publisher/have a pay-what-you-want model for releasing this? I've thought of that since I started putting together Angor. It brings up a few things inside my head that have been an internal argument since I was a teenager. I remember when, in my first year of high-school, a teacher told me that the internet was not [...]

Up and Down and Down and Up

By | 2018-03-20T11:49:36+00:00 March 8th, 2018|Blog|5 Comments

It's been a few months since I've posted here. Maybe that's just the way this space is destined to be. The on-again-off-again relationship from every sitcom. Not as funny but almost as interesting. Since the past few months have passed, I've figured a number of things out; - I've had a more steady, ongoing diet. It's almost like, when I eat for the sake of fuel it's all good because I require performance. Further than that, though, I've really managed to connect with the after effects of poor dietary decisions. I'm tired of the 'food hangover' that comes with over [...]

ROW80 – Another go at finishing that story.

By | 2017-09-26T16:41:56+00:00 September 26th, 2017|Blog|2 Comments

If you've never heard of ROW80 - just click here. I was first introduced to the concept of NaNoWriMo a couple years ago. ROW80 appeals to me because, as they say - they know you have a life. The goals are self-directed and over a longer period of time. During this round, the timeline is in sync with the novel writing month everyone will be struggling through, but with an extra month tacked on the tail of it, to give those of us with kids, careers and the rest of it a fighting chance to keep up. Without going too [...]

Kinda figured this was coming

By | 2017-09-11T12:31:23+00:00 September 11th, 2017|Uncategorized|11 Comments

Last week, I got the letter. "Thank you for your interest in the Canadian Armed Forces." I'm not suuuper surprised, either. I thought there was something strange happening when I'd passed the 5-month mark for a medical examination. For the first day, I just kind of accepted the decision because, after all - it's not entirely my decision. Now, I'm more aligned to that. I get it. I was unfortunately rejected from participating in the Reserves because I've got a documented history of Anxiety. I fully understand that the Army doesn't know 'Bill'. They know the paperwork behind my application. [...]
