Or Maybe Not

By | 2017-08-07T18:22:59+00:00 August 7th, 2017|Blog|4 Comments

Expect this post to be somewhat scattered. For the past few weeks, I've been reeling around the idea of starting some sort of group, club, camp or some other establishment for boys and fathers. This is so far the outcome - a very upside down mind. After Go-Ruck is about when it began. I know this will sound like some kind of ad or otherwise, a paid-for review but the Challenge awakened something inside of me, and I haven't really been the same since. Almost like I unlocked a part of my connectedness to my true human form, the Challenge [...]

New Scouts: An idea for a new scouting organization

By | 2017-07-14T10:32:09+00:00 July 14th, 2017|Blog|0 Comments

Here's a thought; what about creating the platform for men and their sons to come together, build skills and endure hardship together - you know, like we used to two grandmas ago? It's my opinion that, generally, we've lost our way. The traditional qualities of men have been usurped by political correctness and feminized culture. Whoa, that's a pretty brash statement, once I actually write it out. I do feel that - more some days than others, and more specifically, after I endure something like Go Ruck or one of my two weekly strangling sessions at The Rumble Academy's Jiu [...]

GoRuck Tough Class 2347 AAR

By | 2017-07-05T00:29:30+00:00 July 5th, 2017|Blog|0 Comments

So, I went to GoRuck. I'd been meaning to for two years but kept pussyfooting around the event and training required. Since I started at Jiu Jitsu and met actual, real-life challenge on a weekly basis, I signed up. That, and I was hoping that as I rounded out the final step in my Army recruitment process, I could get a glimpse of the intensity required by the workouts on the other side of civilian life. I arrived a few hours early after assuming the traffic and parking would be horrible. My first mistake of the night, I sat and [...]

Jiu Jitsu Over Everything

By | 2017-08-08T17:20:08+00:00 June 23rd, 2017|Blog|2 Comments

Well, internet, I've made up my mind. I'm selling off all of my airsoft stuff. I'm finally going to ditch the rest of my Harley gear. I'm gonna purge the big bin of my unused tactical gear. I'm investing my time, mind and energy fully into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The more I roll, the more I think about it - and the more I think about it, the more I start forming a picture of my place in the BJJ world. I've got a neat idea, and I might start saving for it. A dream I had last night, the [...]

Shaving down interests; focus on few.

By | 2017-06-19T10:21:54+00:00 June 19th, 2017|Blog|13 Comments

Anybody that knows me will tell you that it's a pretty regular thing for me to be 'into' new activities. In most cases, 'into' roughly translates as 'completely overwhelmed, consumed or otherwise obsessed with'. I've got a bad case of Hobby-ADD and I know it. Lately, I've been thinking about consolidating, and I figure there's probably some other guys like me out there who could stand to sort themselves out too, so let's have at it publicly, shall we? Between airsoft, painting, miniatures, guitar and the leagues of other interests, I simply don't have the time to be actively chasing [...]

Rucking and Learning to Push Through

By | 2017-05-23T00:15:12+00:00 May 23rd, 2017|Blog|0 Comments

For an activity I'm sure to despise later in life, I'm excited to take on the next month of training in preparation for the GoRuck event being held on Canada Day in Toronto. It should be different, difficult and revealing. I signed up for GoRuck much before I finally made the decision to apply to the armed forces. Now, only a week or so away from my interview and aptitude test, I'm starting to really ramp up my training in preparation for both. I've gotten my distance running up to 20k and have been rucking after lengthy Jiu Jitsu sessions [...]

A Man’s Struggle

By | 2017-05-11T01:49:50+00:00 May 11th, 2017|Blog|0 Comments

Unsurprisingly, I choose to write. At a time like this, where I've become so befuddled by life and it's complexities, I'll choose to write about it. Not because I aim to aid anybody else through something similar - but to sort out my own thoughts. I think I've found a deep cut in modern men. Not to say it's an original thought, but I guess a better way to describe this might be that I've found truth in it. Modern men - and especially men - lack character-defining struggle. With struggle, we lack the opportunity to sacrifice. In times past [...]

The Decision to Serve

By | 2017-04-28T11:43:50+00:00 April 28th, 2017|Blog|0 Comments

Been a while, eh internet? As stated in the little 'about' section, I'm a study case for hobby-add. On and off again, I always come back to writing. So, what's up? Well, we're starting the 2017 garden. Lots of veggies planned and some to a larger growing scale with a sinister little plan to win a ribbon at the Burford Fair. I've taken up baking as a sideline passion to the regular cooking routines I'm duty-bound to as the resident foodie in House Dungey, too. If the winds will carry the idea, I'd like to sell a few loaves at [...]

A modded Fallout 4 is exactly the game I wanted.

By | 2016-10-24T11:46:48+00:00 October 24th, 2016|Blog|3 Comments

I was one of the types that badmouthed Fallout 4. Fanboyism aside, can you blame me? Let's look at the details - I held tightly the factors that most seemed to ride on about FO4 that didn't quite sit with me right. First, it was the story - it felt like it was sold to me. Like the main audience who had played FO3 years before might have grown out of a story line that had the player chasing daddy and, with many of those original gamers now daddies themselves, what better plot than chasing a baby this time around? [...]

Harvest Festivals and World Building

As you approach the gates of Rastfull, the small village on the outskirts of the Pall district, the capital is only a days journey away. The sweet smell of roasted apple tarts and a spitted hog fill your nostrils as you weave through a swarm of dancing children, faces ripe with inked pastes in the shape of monsters, birds and mammals. A bazaar has been set up just inside the open gates with local sellers showing produce, grains and baked goods. A local man and his brother play a tune for some dancing farmfolk as preparations are made for the [...]
